Light Conversation w/ Mark van de Maat
With a foundation in the Dutch punk and hardcore scene Mark van de Maat is not the most likely candidate to be leading one of Amsterdam’s most watched labels and duos. But here he stands, usually shirtless atop the podium, screaming at the audience while his cohort, Parrish Smith mans an analog rig in their duo, Volition Immanent. When the sun comes up, van de Maat runs Knekelhuis a label that never wants to repeat itself. For this edition of Light Conversation van de Maat joins Gregory Markus and shares details about his punk background, his discovery of electronic music, disparities between the scenes and how the Amsterdam scene is becoming more and more open to surprises of all sorts . Red Light Radio Light Conversation – is a series documenting the lives and experiences of personalities from across the creative spectrum. Gregory Markus, an archivist at the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision, will be curating the show, aiming to bring a humanist perspective to what drives and inspires these great minds.
